Stephen Paddock, 64, committed what is now the deadliest mass shooting in the U.S just last night, killing 59 people and injuring over 500 more in Las Vegas on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel. He had opened fire during a country music festival with a crowd of 22,000 people, terrorizing everyone there. When authorities got to him, they found him dead inside his hotel room with 10 rifles in the room. Firearm experts have said that Paddock may have been using easily-accessible modification equipment to fire at a faster rate, but also may have been using fully automatic weapons illegally.
This is an absolutely terrible and disgusting situation that should never happen. These types of things happen way too often, and they just keep getting worse and worse and worse. There's no reason why he should have had access, easy or not, to fully automatic weapons, and to so many at that. It seems like nowadays, you can't enjoy a concert or party or do anything sociable without the fear of a mass shooting occurring, which is not the way we should live.

One thing that really stands out to me about this particular shooting is the fact that the media has been calling Paddock a "lone wolf shooter" or simply a gambler who did little to attract attention is proof of the racist institution that we live in. If the shooter were a Muslim man or a black man, they would immediately be labelled as terrorists and suddenly their whole race or religion would be blamed for their actions. But when it is a white man, it is no one's fault but the shooter's. Paddock was a terrorist and it is absurd that anyone would call him anything else.
