From 1130-1180 a drought caused northern migration, so there is a possibility this sets the time period for the inhabitants. They are using every resource left to lock down an estimation. This article was written by John Hurdle, an NPR and NY Times reporter. Published early September of this year, it has very up to date information on this topic. If this was an older article, there would probably be more specific details and other writings about it. Prior to reading it, I knew little about native people from that time period. We learn a lot about when America begins to be settled by other countries, but before that there is a lot of mystery. This article helps people realize how much history has gone unrecorded and undiscovered. The world in very old and we haven't even begun to scratch the surface of all that has happened.https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/04/science/chaco-native-american-archaeology.html?rref=collection%2Fsectioncollection%2Fus&action=click&contentCollection=us®ion=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=3&pgtype=sectionfront
Julia Hunt- I agree with you. We spend very little time in out elementary education acknowledging native cultures and you can see this throughout people's adult lives. There is a certain mystery to Native American history but we spend so much time teaching children about the glory of Christopher Columbus and English colonization that we aren't inspiring kids to go into Native American studies when there is a rich culture there.
ReplyDeleteThe Native Americans are a crucial part of this nation's history, and it is disappointing that so little is taught in schools. It is great to hear that more knowledge is being discovered of this hidden past.
