New Drug For Severe Eczema Is Successful in 2 New Trials by Macey Kanaman 8th Period

Summary: Eczema is an extremely painful disease that consists of rashes all over the body. This disease has yet to be cured, until now. Approximately 1.6 million Americans are affected by some form of this disease. A new drug, dupilumab, has proved to cure two patients of Eczema. Many of the patients included in this trial have reported clearing of the rash after a few months. Even the pain has slowly began to go away. The drug will apparently not be cheap. It is considered a biologic, which is the most expensive type of drug. The drug has done many great things, and will continue to do more.

Analysis: I know that Eczema is a serious disease. Some people may think it's just a rash, but the immense pain it brings makes it so much more. Similar to Eczema, Smallpox consists of rashes, bumps and scabs. Sadly, there is no cure to Smallpox, only preventatives. Smallpox was the cause of so many deaths after Columbus was introduced into the Americas. Many Americans suffer with Eczema and many Indians lost their lives to Smallpox. If Smallpox was an outbreak The United States experienced now I believe that we would be able to find a cure, but since there are preventatives there really is no reason to research for a cure. Hopefully, in the future we will find a cure for Smallpox and prevent other deadly diseases like the ones that wiped out the Indian population.

  1. I suffer from Eczema, and some days it can be horrible and some days I can go along with my days like it was never there. When it is at it's worst I tend to scratch parts of my skin off because of how severe it is. It would be nice to find something that calms the irritation a little more. - Skyler Tepedino
