Devyn Lemack- FluMist is no Longer a Choice

There is some awful news for the kids who hate flu shots, recently the American Academy of Pediatrics joined with the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention in recommending not to include the nasal spray as a vaccine for the flu this season. Doctors believe that the nasal spray does not protect our bodies nearly as well as the shot does. The FluMist has not protected kids against certain strains of the flu for the past 3 seasons. The vaccines effectiveness among children ages 2-17 was only 3% last year, as the injected vaccine had an effectiveness rate of 63%.

This article was written on September 7th by Leada Gore. Before reading this article I heard about this topic at my doctors office when I was getting ready to get my FluMist, then my doctor explained to me they can no longer use that vaccine. Being a person who hates shots, i am sad to hear this news, but i know that this is a better choice and it can protect our health more than the mist could have. This article was written to let people know that to benefit our health they will no longer be giving out the FluMist vaccine. This can relate to history because 25 years ago, tobacco was a huge deal but now there aren't as many smokers because not as many people like it anymore, just like doctors don't like the FluMist anymore.

  1. That cool, scientists are always changing things and making them better for the good of all. Hopefully less people will get the flu this year.

  2. Yeah I don't like the sound of shots either but it's good that shots are a reliable choice and it's good that they are finding this out now so that more people won't end up with the flu this year

  3. I'm pretty fine with shots, as long as I'm getting them for a legit reason.

  4. Wow, I had no clue that the FluMist was no longer an option! I personally get the shots as I have too heard that it is more effective than the nasal spray, and shots don't bother me! I wonder if in the future they will create another option similar to the spray that is just as effective as the shot.

  5. I used to get the flu mist, but last year I heard about it not being as effective and I got the shot. I don't think the shot is actually that bad, but I know lots of people who are terrified of needles and would much rather get the mist than the shot.

  6. I am actually have chronic trypanophobia, which makes me get physical symptoms because of my severe fear of needle injection, and makes getting the flu shot just not worth it. It is incredibly disappointing that the FluMist isn't offered anymore, because it was a godsend when it was offered, and even if it wasn't the best, it did provide some form of protection against the flu.
