Mikenzie Moon, "How Trump Could Avoid taxes for 18 years"

Summary: On Trump's 1995 taxes he had a $916 million net operating loss. This  allowed Trump to stop paying federal income taxes for  eighteen years. The article says this is Trump's fault. It is said that tax laws  allow people to write off losses for multiple years. This continues to be a debate if it was right or wrong to not pay taxes. Chris Christie and Rudy Giuliani are supporters of Trump in this argument.

Analysis/Synthesis: I honestly don't understand how this works completley and don't know if Trump really did or did not pay his taxes, but I do know if this was his fault, it could knock him out of this presidency race. I feel like the author of this article was more on Trumps side that he wasn't going against the law. I still think this is written for Clinton supporters because they can use this more as levarage. This also connects really well to Chapter nine and the colonists being against paying taxes. Under The Article of Confederation it didn't make states pay the national government taxes which cause a lot of debt and turmoil. This is why we have taxes: for the better good of society.  Therefore, it's wrong for someone not to pay taxes, especially someone as rich as Donald Trump. Then again this could just have to do  with a tax write off-- we'll find out soon.

  1. He wouldn't de his taxes unless he was broke or never payed taxes and he lives in a gold tower so I'm going to say he's never paid taxes.

  2. I think it's amazing that someone who wants to be a president.. enforces rules and such... can't pay his taxes. I bet if someone who was from another country didn't pay their taxes, Trump would target them.

  4. It is a shame that the wealthy can get out of their taxes so efficiently, causing the government to raise taxes which eventually hurts the middle class more than anyone.

  5. I wrote about the same thing from a New York times article and found it a sort of assurance to how selfish and twisted Trump is.

  7. I agree with your point of it being Trump's fault that he got into this situations with the taxes. I also believe that he should have know what he was getting into whenever he signed up for this years Presidential election. Many of the candidates know that a lot of their personal information can and will be shown for all of the American people to see.- Samantha Pena 7th period
