Leah Nowell - "Hurricane Help: Best Ways to lend a hand after the storm" - 8th

Summary - Sitting somewhere safe and dry wondering how to help friends, family or strangers beset by the ravages of Hurricane Mathew? There are lots of ways to lend a hand – but relief workers say some gestures are more helpful than others. While the storm sideswiped Florida’s Atlantic coast early Friday, it crippled Haiti, leaving hundreds dead and thousands homeless, and hit the Bahamas and Cuba hard. Authorities are warning that a serious flooding threat still exists for Georgia and South Carolina, as the most powerful hurricane the Atlantic Seaboard has seen in over ten years continues its northerly path. It will take awhile for the damage to be checked out and to figure out what people need. In the mean time, people that live in the unaffected areas can help out in lots of different ways. Including donating blood, because regular blood donors have been severely injured. Money donations to Red Cross are extremely helpful. The donation doesn't have to be specifically to Red Cross but organizations closely related or that work with Red Cross.

Analysis - I agree that we need to help in many ways, but I feel like money isn't the only important thing we need to give. We can give emotional and practical support or donate supplies because several people are left homeless or have lost jobs due to the damage and can't afford or find what they need.

  1. I like how you opened it up by asking rhetorical questions to persuade people to help. I completely agree, although money is needed we also need to lend a helping hand.

  2. I think we should always help people in these types of situations anyway we can.
