Payton Climer

In this article it is explained that, United states international soccer midfielder, Megan Rapinoe, kelt during the national anthem in support of Colin Kaepernick, quaterback for the San Francisco 49ers. She comments after the game that she did it intentionally to protest racial issues. This article was written by Euan McKirdy, CNN staff, on September 5, 2016. This makes the article very current and accurate. I, like many readers, already heard of Kaepernick sitting during the pledge, which allowed me to understand why Rapinoe did what she did. This article was written to inform and rid of confusion about the pledge protest. This article is trying to convey that these athletes aren't being disrespectful, but rather protesting the racial issues they feel strongly about. This is important because it informs people about this event that many people may not know of or understand. Readers can conclude that this act of protest is for good not bad, and shows that although we have come a long way there still is room for improvement. This article connects with Rosa Parks protest in the bus. She stood up for what was right even though people thought it was disrespectful at the time. This simple act helped changed the way things were, the same way these athletes want to protest for change as well.

  1. Oh my goodness! I wrote about the same thing except on a NFL player; Colin Kaepernick. I found it very interesting with different sides and views to his reasoning.
