A passenger train struck a backhoe, a construction vehicle, on the track near Philadelphia killing two construction workers who were working for the railroad service. 35 passengers were injured but none of the injuries are life threatening. The reason why the backhoe was parked on the train track is still being investigated. Questions are being asked like "Why did the train continue its route from New York to Savannah, Georgia, when Amtrak construction workers may have been on the track? Or why didn't the construction workers move if a train was coming?"
This is a really sad event and it's mad worse by the questions of uncertainty. An accident on a mass transportation line is always freaky because so many lives are at stake. The number of injured people is quite high but I'm sure they are just thankful to be alive. My thoughts go out to the families of the two construction workers who died in the crash.
