Search and rescue teams have been searching the coast of North Carolina since Saturday afternoon. The female third class petty officer was thought to have fallen off the deck of the USS Carter Hall. She was then reported missing at 4:20 on Saturday afternoon. The search covers a 4.5 square mile area off of Cape Hatteras. As of Monday the search was still underway with the assistance of air support, 8 Navy ships, and the U.S. Coast Guard. The USS Carter Hall is a part of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group. The officer was reported missing while the team was performing a routine training operation.
