Texas teacher arrested after being caught

 on video beating black student

by: Tristin Manus 8th

Summary: Texas high school teacher was taken into custody Friday after video was posted online showing her repeatedly slapping a black student as he sat at his desk trying to cover up. The teacher, Mary Hastings,63, a teacher at Ozen High School near Beaumont was arrested for assault. In the video — shot by another student, — Hastings can be seen repeatedly hitting the student as he sits at his desk, calling him an “idiot a**,” then mocking him afterwards when he asks, “Why’d you do that?” According to a statement from Beaumont school district, the video of Hastings was then given to BISD police and school administrators. The geometry teacher posted a bond of $2,500 in the misdemeanor assault charge at the Jefferson County jail and was released. The school district stated that she has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.

Analysis: I honestly applauded that student for not retaliating with violence. This teacher deserves to be fired, you do not put your hands on a student whatsoever, there are other ways you can enforce punishment without violence. If the student would have retaliated his consequences would have been way worse. There have been many more times that violence has been heavily enforced , the other video of the white security guard pulling a black student out of her seat aggressively and using excessive force. Dr. Umar Abdullah Johnson says, "93% of all teachers in America are middle age white women. If you want to fix public education, all you need to do is get every black boy a black male teacher". Plus if this would have been a black teacher hitting a white boy, he would've been arrested so fast and put in jail for years, no questions asked.

  1. Her bail should have been posted way higher.. that is just wrong.

  2. Administrative leave during investigation? That's way too easy. They have plenty of proof against her already to get her fired, they're just delaying the process.
