US urging end to violence in Syria- Nicole Chatham 6th period

This week I read an article that talked about the Syrian civil war and the current actions of the United States. Samantha Powers, the U.S. ambassador of the United Nations, is now urging countries with influence (like Russia) to convince the Syrian government to honor the cease fire. If there was to be any escalation of violence instead, it would threaten this week's peace talks in Geneva. Within the article Samantha Powers also states that the U.S. is very alarmed at the announcement of an offensive around Aleppo, as it greatly hurts the chances of ending this five year Syrian conflict.

Analysis- This article is pretty interesting! It's very important to know what is going on around the world especially with the U.S. being involved in other countries. I can relate this article back in U.S. history to the Civil Rights Movement. During the Civil Rights Movement, many major events were taking place as African Americans were trying to achieve equal rights. Led by Martin Luther King Jr., there were many forms of protests like sit ins or marches, but no matter what, Martin Luther King Jr. urged that people act nonviolently and lead by example. It seems that some ideas never go away as people are constantly striving for nonviolence and more suitable ways to handle different situations.
