Summary: At yet another school, this time in England, a multitude of girls have been sent home over dress code issues. Administrators claim that their "too-short" skirts encourage boys to "peer up their hemlines. Chloe, a junior at the school where 70 girls were sent home, spoke out, and accused the school of being discriminatory and disgusting, because the school tends to whine about their workload not being enough but yet they are sent home over a skirt not being knee length. Her own father did not see the issue with the skirt. However, the headmaster is sticking to her claim of their skirts being short, distracting, and blaming it on the girls. She even goes as far to cite the fact that climbing up the stairs could be a place for boys to peer up girl's skirts.
Analysis: In my opinion, a skirt length is not that deep for girls to be sent home. I am tired of seeing the "boys will be boys" attitude in 2016. It's time to WAKE UP. Behavior like this encourages rape culture, and normalizes the over-sexualization of the female body. This could be synthesized to the time of the 70's during the second wave of feminism. This is the exact kind of issue that the feminists of that time would have fought for. I'm hoping that when my children are in school, their education will be valued more than the length of her skirt.
I agree with your analysis. This seems like it should be history, not happening now! I don't understand why girls should be taxed with having to make up school work for their outfit choice and boys being practically encouraged by the school board to sexualize the situation.

A skirt a little bit above knee length is fine. Honestly in don't get what the big deal is.
ReplyDeleteKenley Turner- Most dress code regulations apply to girls; hardly any for boys... something is wrong w that

ReplyDeleteHonestly/ dress code is not that serious. As long as long as they dont come to school in their underwear it shouldbe fine. This situation is also sexist because they didt send annyy boys home for being out of dresscode.
