Two Amtrak workers were found dead earlier today. They were working on a backhoe when a train with 341 people on it hit the device, resulting in the Amtrak workers' deaths and about 35 minor injuries. This was said to be caused by a huge mistake- a backhoe is never supposed to be on a live track , and workers are only allowed on tracks with small tools. A company dispatcher was supposed to have notified any engineers so that they could slow down to avoid hitting workers. For additional safety, another worker is supposed to warn engineers using an air horn. It is believed jay the workers thought that they were on an inactive track. The workers were said to hav been performing a routine maintenance at the time.
This is a sad story and shows how much trust impacts daily life. It's a shame that this happened, and I hope it's not a dispatcher error.
This relates to apush, because the safety standards of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory were not up to par, causing numerous deaths. The safety of working on the Amtrak train track must not be very safe.
