Since the series, "Making a Murderer" came out on Netflix, the residents of the town it's set in, Manitowoc, have been under a lot of pressure. The series focuses on Stephen Avery, who was in prison mistakenly for many years for raping a woman, until DNA pointed out that it was someone else, but went to prison again soon after for murder. The debate remains- did he do it, or was he framed? Nobody knows for sure, but this is a prime example of a case where the justice system is flawed.
It seems that, even though our technology has been advancing, the justice system keeps getting even more flawed. We have new forensic technology, but that often becomes misused, and can result in innocent people being imprisoned. Additionally, police brutality is becoming increasingly more apparent, and there have been many protests against it. In the past, the justice system was obviously more flawed than it is now, due to greater prejudices, and less technology, but it still seems like no matter how far we've come, the level of corruption and mistakes made are always at the same level, if not growing. It's as though despite all of our advances, we are still stuck in the same old dilemma of incongruities.

It's horrible how many police brutality incidents have occurred lately. States and the government should have more discipline for these acts, not just a small slap on the wrist and leave it at that.
ReplyDeleteAlthough we only hear about the bad apples, there are many officers still doing their best to uphold justice, those are the people we should have hope in.

This is horrible! Police officers have gotten out of control. - Kayleigh S
