Google recently donated $5.3 Million worth of chromebooks (approximately 25,000 laptops) to Syrian refugees fleeing to Germany. This is mostly for language purposes, but will also help give kids the opportunity to learn anything the internet has to offer.
This is a great way to give students and their families a tool to ease the frightening process of moving to an entirely new country. It will keep them updated on news, can help with language barriers, and will introduce kids to technology they will need to know how to work to succeed in modern professions. Overall, this contribution from Google will make a difference in the lives of many refugees in Germany, and at no detriment to the company.
The efforts on Google's part to help these refugees is an example of Andrew Carnegie's precedent set in his book, The Gospel of Wealth, that the rich must use their economic influence to impact others positively.

Google is definitely doing the right thing to help assist refugees in integrating into European societies. Good on them, hope they do more of this!

I think that this is a really moving story and I hope other companies follow suit. These Syrian refugees deserve the same opportunities that we take for granted everyday such as the ability to access the internet. Who knows, a chromebook might change some of these kids' lives.
