Four High School Wrestlers Charged for Rape of Boys- Carlos Joglar

After a January wrestling tournament, two boys, one 14 and one 16, were sexually assaulted on a bus by four team mates. The 14 year old was assaulted twice. Three members were charged as minors while one was charged as an adult, who was charged on multiple accounts, including rape by instrumentation by force and fear. AS a result of their conduct, of that's even an appropriate use of the word, one coach was dismissed and another suspended.

Justice has been served. Good, I'm glad, they got what they deserved, done deal. However, I can't help but think what would've happened if the two victims were women. I'm not trying to diminish what happened to them, it was obviously horrible. But if they were girls, there is a large chance the rapists wouldn't have been charged at all. In fact, there is another large chance that it wouldn't have even been reported. I want to synthesize about a U.S. historical event that has to do with oppression of women, but I realize that is basically all of U.S. history. And though we think we are so civil and progressive, not much has changed.

  1. Its horrible that because these kids are young, they take advantage of their youth and get different sentences than what an adult would be charged.(Alejandra Hernandez 6th period)

  2. There's a lot of unfair assumptions about both men and women when either says they have been sexually assaulted. Men are called liars because "men can't get raped", women are slut-shamed, etc. Both cases are unfair to say the least. I agree that it's really upsetting the charges are so biased.
