Sophie Kurzius (8) Texas Judge Shot Outside her Home

On Friday, November 6, 2015, Travis Country District Judge Julie Kocurek was shot near her home in Austin, Texas. The injury caused by the shooting was very serious, but proved to be non life threatening into her first hours in the hospital. This event occurred very late at night, so it was practically impossible for anyone to identify her shooter. Police are still investigating and searching for any type of lead on the deranged criminal. This article was written by Greg Botelho and Carma Hassan. The authors may have written this article to convey a horrible happening to the public and maybe get the word out,  in hope that someone will have information on the event. The article ewas last updated on Saturday, November 7, 2015, so that could potentially have affected the amount of information in the article. By now, they could possible have uncovered the shooter's identity and have put him/her in jail. I had previously not heard anything about this shooting, and it really terrifies me how much goes on in the world that I'm not aware of. Granted, this event did turn out with a somewhat happy ending because of the stable condition the judge is in, but I'm surprised it didn't become an event that people talk about. Someone was still shot, someone's life was almost taken, someone just like you and me... I don't know, maybe I'm a tad melodramatic, but I feel like there should be more emphasis on things like this in the news. Just because it wasn't extremely tragic, doesn't mean that the public shouldn't be informed about it in ways other than a news article.

  1. I agree with you. I think that every life matters just as much as any other. I can't speak for other people, but when I hear about things like this on tv on the news, it makes me more cautious and it makes me feel for those whose lives were taken. There needs to be more coverage on things like this
