A shooting occurred at the Winston-Salem State University leaving one student dead and one injured. Local police were called by the university's campus police around 1:20 am after the shooting. The University sent a message out on Twitter announcing a school lockdown.
America has experienced it's fair-share of school shootings, sadly. In Blacksburg, Virginia, student Seung Hui Cho killed 32 students at Virginia Tech University in 2007. In 2005, Jeff Weise form Minnesota High School killed 5 students, a teacher, and a security guard before killing himself. In 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 13 students before killing themselves at the Columbine High School.
School security began to become tougher after the mass school shootings in Littleton, Colorado and Conyers, Georgia. Metal detectors in front of school doors, bar coded ID badges, and random backpack searches were all became active after these shootings.
