Cop Cuffed, Then Escapes - Ava Cosentino

Summary:
Sheriff's Deputy, Edward Tucker, was arrested in California on Tuesday after police finding meth, five guns, and explosives in his car. After being double cuffed, they sat Tucker in the back of the patrol car and rolled down the windows for him when he said he was feeling nauseous. While the police were writing up the arrest report on their computers, surveillance cameras show Tucker escaping and the two police men not even noticing. Three days later, Tucker was found hiding in a residential garage.

Analysis:
Officials believe that Edward Tucker was able to escape the two pairs of hand cuffs because he most likely had handcuff keys on him at the sight of the arrest. People were also baffled at how much time passed before the two cops noticed he was gone; 15 minutes. I just wonder how cops arrest other cops, knowing that they have the same or similar training as one another, and to me this was an example that it doesn't work out too well. Granted, Tucker is now in custody, but he was still able to escape and hide for several days before being found once again. Does this relate back to the topic of government strength?

  1. It almost seems like the other cops know he was gone and let him go. How would they go 15 minutes without noticing? Surely the would've looked in the rearview mirror before then. Maybe the cops knew the cop arrested? Madeline Jones 4th period
