Chipotle closes stores due to E. coli scareChipotle has made the decision to temporarily close many of its Washington and Oregon locations due to an outbreak of E. coli. No one has died due to the infection, however there were seven Washington patients and one Oregon patient hospitalized. Cases in Washington and Oregon have been traced back to Chipotle locations in the Portland and Seattle areas. As a result, Chipotle has temporarily close 43 stores.
E. coli was discovered by a German bacteriologist in 1885. During that time, it killed mass amounts of people due to lack of proper sanitation or medicine. Since then, medicine and bacteria studies has advanced which has definitely helped keep the bacterial virus from spreading as rapidly as it did in the 1800s. However, it is still obviously a problem when it comes to chain restaurants. We can only hope doctors and bacteriologists continue to study the virus and its causes.
