On August 28, 2002, a mother reported her five year old son missing. The police suspected his noncustodial father, Bobby Hernandez, abducted the her son, Julian Hernandez. As Julian was applying for college, he discovered that his Social Security number didn't match his name. His counselors at school helped him figure out what was going on, and they discovered that he was a missing child from Alabama. Julian has been living in Cleveland, Ohio for 13 years unharmed. The FBI notified his mother and his father was arrested. His bond was set at $250,000, and he is not only being charged in Ohio but also in Alabama.
There have been many kidnapping stories throughout the years. In 1991 an 11-year old girl, Jaycee Dugard, was kidnapped for 18 years. Dugard is just one example of many kidnappings that happen per year. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children have said that there are about 800,000 children reported missing each year in the US.
The amount of children that are reported missing each year is sickening. Its one of my biggest fears, it's always good to remain cautious of your surroundings and whats going on around you.
