Kid caught making bombs by: Emma Wall

The article above describes the attempt of a bombing at a high school in Minnesota.  A boy of 17 years of age had been creating dozens of homemade bombs and was plotting to set one off, ultimately killing at least 40 of his classmates.  The boy also, stated that he was going to kill his family  before the bombing.  He got caught breaking into a storage unit that was filled with bomb making material.  He was immediately taken in for questioning in which he fully admitted to his plot, had a journal and of course the evidence that was found in the both the storage unit and his bedroom.

This was very shocking to me.  How could the parents not know that something was going on in their own home?  It is also crazy that the family is in denial that he would of actually followed through, even though he confessed that he was going to kill them first.  Oddly enough, he is not going to jail because he did not actually commit the crime.  This can be connected to the 8th Amendment and the Bill of Rights because it states that there shall not be any cruel or unusual punishment.  Because the crime was not carried out, they could not punish him the same way as if he would of carried it out.

  1. Thats so crazy that the parents were so oblivious to something so big! I know since he didn't actually follow through with his plans he does not have to go to jail but It's scary to think that he could still follow through with them at any moment.
