Gunnar Hansen, more commonly known as "The Chainsaw Massacre", died Saturday evening, November 7, at age 68. The cause of death was pancreatic cancer. Hansen is a horror film icon who portrays a character who wears a mask of human skin and taunts children with a chainsaw. After he made it big in that movie, he became a writer and editor, going on to write many small horror films. One of his films was "Chainsaw Sally." The last film Hansen was working on, "Death House", will be published next year as a tribute to Hansen. Although Hansen was born in Reykjavik, Iceland, he moved to Texas when he was just 5. He wrote a book about his experience acting in the film "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" in which he shared that he was paid just $400 to do the film. Hansen also revealed many other secrets in his book, calling it "Chainsaw Confidential."
Even though I have never seen "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," I can picture that mask and chainsaw easily. Hansen created a character that everyone is familiar with, no matter if they have seen the film or not. The fact that the story of his death has been written about in such depth shows how technology has shaped our lives. Hansen is not known as an average person named Gunnar Hansen, but instead as a horror film character who haunts everyone's nightmares. I am sure he did an amazing job in the role of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but he was also a writer and wrote his own films, which he should also be known for.
