Thirty-nine-year-old Jody Lee Hunt, the gunman who was responsible for three shootings in West Virginia that killed four people, was found dead in the woods of Monongalia County. His body was discovered in "a power line right of way," but no further information has been released. Officials who investigated each one of the three shootings will soon talk to discover the cause of this shooting. Apparently, Hunt had earlier made a Facebook post grieving about his issues with a woman. He stated "I poured out my heart to her only to be manipulated as to what I could give her (...) don't play a game with one's heart." It is said that the shootings were intentionally aimed at certain people, and there was a recent domestic violence case filed against Hunt.
All schools near the shootings went under lock down to remain safe. However, in Morgantown (a nearby location) West Virginia University said that there was no specific threat to the campus, and classes continued after Thanksgiving break. Many witnesses to the shootings were doing daily activities when they happened and didn't think much, when they heard gunshots because it was hunting season.
This incident is just awful and brings up this never ending conflict of "the right to bear arms," the second amendment. Although weapons are used as forms of protection, shootings are becoming very common across the nation. And if one is willing to illicitly take away another man's life, then what would stop them from illegally acquiring such weapons? While both sides to this argument are rational, the solution to this conflict can never be easily made. It was very wise of the schools to go under official lock down procedures to ensure the safety of their students, and right now, since no one can easily prevent another from going on a killing rampage, all we can hope is that every school knows how to protect them self when needed.
