Thanks to a water leak in Boston, the artifact was found near its resting place inside a cornerstone at the Massachusetts State House in Boston. When workers discovered it, they called Pamela Hatchfield, the head of the object conservation at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts. There was a discussion to see if they should take it out, but it was decided that if they find it, they'll investigate it and see if it's still intact. The box is believed that it holds coins, a plate, and Revere-inscribed plaque, but no one knows for sure. It's going to get an X-Ray pretty soon. The capsule will be returned to the State House and a new container will be brought for the capsule as well as current era things to add to the capsule.
This relates to APUSH because it was during the time of the American Revolution when this capsule was created. Now that we have it and historians will be able to open it, we'll be able to see what's in there and how it was significant to that time period. Also, I think it may be able to help us today. We'll learn from what's in there and maybe find out why they were used and use it for present day use.
