Many Americans agree with the opinion that Eric Garner's court ruling outcome was unjust. (The man who was choked to death by an NYPD officer.) Even FOX news reporters and conservatives side with the people who believe the court ruling was wrong. One man comments, "The changes we're going to see now, if there are any, are going to have to be much more substantive and much more on the ground," regarding police actions.
There are multiple factors that contribute to people's justified anger towards this case's court ruling. I'm going to start off with the fact that the coroner ruled Eric Garner's death as a homicide, meaning the cop murdered this man but the court decided to rule in favor of officer Daniel Pantaleo. How about the fact that chokeholds were banned from being used in the NYPD? Plus the fact that Eric Garner was not resisting whenever he was down, he was gasping for air and screaming "I can't breathe."
In the video showing the brutality of the police, X, Eric Garner is heard telling the police that he is "tired of the harassment and stalking," meaning that this particular officer had harassed him before. Although Garner slightly resists arrest in the beginning, once he was down he was not making anymore threatening movements. He was being suffocated by the officer. He then died from asphyxiation.
The amount of power tripping and unfair justice systems we've endured throughout our entire history and you'd think that they'd make a change. Our own government was not following their own laws when making this decision. This topic is related to centuries of abuse that people of color have had to endure, but specifically blacks. All pieces of evidence are stacked against the officer who murdered this man and he is still free but why? People like to argue that this isn't an issue of race, but the NYPD is known for extremely disturbing acts of violence against POC and justifying their wrong doings to get away with murder.
I completely agree with you in the fact that this society is corrupt and people are getting away with things that are so illegal. RIghts need to be justified soon or else this country is going to crumble.
