Americans Favor Gun Rights - Veronica Nichols

The Pew Research center has conducted a recent study and the results show that for the first time in more then 20 years Americans favor gun rights over gun control.  This study follows an upward trend of mass shootings in the US. Americans said gun ownership protects people from becoming victims of crimes rather then putting people at risk. This opinion was seen across party lines. Surprisingly the increases in mass shootings around the US seems to be making people more in favor of owning guns.

This argument stems from the 2nd amendment right to bear arms. While nobody has seriously suggested that we take this constitutional right to bear arms away from the people they have suggested that we control more who can get these guns. For example having a gun would be restricted to those who have a clean criminal record and no history of mental illness. Some people believe that restricting access to firearms in that way is taking away the rights of some of the countries people.
