Mental Health Treatment in New York- Myles Bennett

The administration of the mayor has decided to seek better treatment for mentally unstable and substance abusers than throwing them in jail.

Analysis: This is what Dorothea Dix rooted for and strived for during her reform movement. Patients in mental asylums were not treated very well and Dorothea Dix petitioned for better treatment. Finally she got it and now we are still are creating better treatment today.

  1. It is nice to see that society is still continuing to advance on an idea that was first brought about so long ago. This creates optimism in the notion that we are still trying to improve, and even though we have made revolutionary progress, there is still a ways to go.

  2. I wonder if New York's actions will be able to spread throughout the nation, so eventually mentally handicapped individuals get the help and treatment they need.

  3. This makes a lot of sense. The idea of throwing someone in jail who is mentally unstable isn't smart at all. I agree with Nina completely it does create an idea of optimism and shows that they're trying to improve.
