I know a lot of people would love to live on a different planet. In the year 2022 it can happen! over 100,000 people have already signed up to make Mars their new home. How crazy is that?
Thanks to The Mars One project, in just as little as 9 years we could all be living on Mars. Although, the amount of money it will take to get there has not been determined yet. But they want to keep it "high enough for people to have to really think about it and low enough for anyone to be able to afford it" said Mars One CEO and co-founder, Bas Lansdorp.
You must be at the age of 18 to apply to travel and live on Mars. Is the a dangerous mission? Yes, yes it s. It is dangerous if you have never traveled through space before. And of course you have the rick of being exposed to radiation which will put you at a 3% more chance of getting cancer.
How would someone survive on Mars? Lansdorp said that food and solar panels will be sent in capsules and water and oxygen will be manufactured on Mars. "We will evaporate it and condense it back into its liquid state. From the water we can make hydrogen and oxygen, and we will use the oxygen for a breathing atmosphere inside the habitat. This will be prepared by the rovers autonomously before the humans arrive." Lansdorp said. Interesting.
I do have to admit that it would be pretty cool to live on Mars. But is it worth the risk of possibly not making it to Mars? Maybe Lansdorp will sort all of the safety plans out, I mean he has 9 whole years to figure something out! Maybe in 9 years I'll be living on Mars.

That's so cool. I mean the idea that we could live on other planets in the near future seems like such a crazy possibility. Obviously there are lots of risks, but the rewards are great, I think it would be amazing to experience life beyond the boundaries of Earth.

Funny story: an AARP commercial played before the video, talking about "real choices" or something. Totally thought it was the cheesiest Mars One campaign until I realized what was going on...
ReplyDeleteOKAY well before watching the video clip, I thought there's no doubt I wa signing up to live on Mars! Talk about a once in a lifetime thing! Then I watched that lady say she was a Martian and all bets were off... Also I am just envisioning everyone on this trip blowing up in some space catastrophe. I think I'll just watch the reality show.
Hahahaha yessssssssss! Could you see the Kardashians living on Mars? "Kourtney and Kim take Mars"

I think it would be really cool to live on Mars, but there are so many risks that come with it! I think I would have to look into the details a lot more and seriously weigh the pros and cons before deciding to go.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...it's hard to say if this is actually a possibility in our NEAR future, considering all the conditions it would require. I can pretty much disagree entirely that it would actually be affordable, considering the millions of dollars it costs just to build a shuttle (let alone the costs for supplies and such to be able to live there safely). Not to mention the fact that they already shut down the whole space shuttle program...However, I do think that overcrowding on planet earth could eventually become a serious problem, and this would be a good way to prevent that (if we could figure out a way that it really would be cheap). I also think that it is definitely a possibility technology-wise because we've already come so far in that field. Who knows? Maybe there really will be life on other planets some day!

Yeah... it sounds possible someday but right now to think that it can happen in 9 year's? Basically when we are about to be around 26, it just sounds very crazy! They must be a really strong plan developing to help us find a new home but in a new planet. I'm amazed!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds incredibly cool, but also sort of lonely, and how would you contact people on earth efficiently...

This is very cool, but I think that the price should be very high because if it happens to be low then everyone will do it and it won't be exciting that someone is going to Mars. Also you would need to take some sort of class on how to be in space.
ReplyDeleteVery intriguing text. Hard to imagine though. Wow, Mars ...
ReplyDeleteI feel that living on Mars would take more advancements in science. Perhaps if we can invent a process such as the "stasis" state of science fiction then we would actually be able to make it to the planet.
ReplyDeleteI think it is amazing that in less than a decade from now people will be able to live on a different planet. I'm sure the views from Mars will wow and mystify anyone that afford or have the courage to. Truly anything is possible with a little hard work and imagination. So why are those things not being put to good use here on earth to end over population, world hunger, and global climate change. Could it be said that we are becoming the villians protrayed in movies. Once all the resources of this planet are used or contaminated on to the next once. What will keep people from doing the same things on Mars that were done on Earth. With so much effort having to put into substaing life on Mars what will be the life expectancy?
ReplyDeleteIt is incredible that we live in a time with such innovation in the realm of science! Although the mission is possible theoretically, I believe it will take a little longer to put into action. There will likely be unimagined complications, so there will be new delays in the mission. Once habitation of other planets begins, who knows what will be possible?
