In Dearborn Heights, Michigan, one burger restaurant owner has gotten quite a bit of attention after raising the wage of his workers from $12 to $15. The previous wage of $12 is already a stretch from Michigan's minimum wage of a mere $7.40 an hour, and $15 is even more of a generous amount. Brian Parker, owner of Moo Cluck Moo Burgers, says that his employees aren't just "burger flippers", but are a valuable asset to his business, conversing and communicating directly with customers. He also said raising wages doesn't mean his prices have to increase, charging only $3 for a burger, while still making a good profit.
With all the recent controversy over minimum wage, I think that this business displays a good example that raising wages isn't an impossibility or something that could financially ruin a business or the prices it offers to consumers. A rise in minimum wage would stimulate the economy, allowing workers more financial freedom to spend money on a greater variety of goods and luxuries that they could otherwise not afford such as clothing and going out to eat. It would also decrease their dependency of welfare and other government aid funded through taxes, which could even allow our taxes to be used for other purposes such as education or paying off America's massive debt.

Thats amazing that he can make a profit from three dollar burgers! I never considered what raising the minimum wage would do to the economy but i can see how it would benefit everyone.
ReplyDeleteWoah, this is crazy! I definitely agree that raising the wages could benefit everyone. It's pretty cool to know that you can make that kind of a profit from selling burgers for only $3!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really great topic, I think that people are unwilling to raise minimum wage because they are afraid they will make less profit and have to fire people. Although I feel like most McDonalds have enough money to pay more and not go under.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic example of how wages can be increased, yet profit can still be turned. This demonstrates the foolishness and greed of organizations such as Papa John's, the owner of which possesses a large mansion--known as "the castle"--and enjoys remarkable financial comfort. Raising the minimum wage won't cause problems; it will fix them.
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing how wages are benefitted!!! I wish I would be payed $a5 for something that small!!:)
