Summary: The Moo Cluck Moo in Dearborn Heights is voluntarily bringing their employees pay to $15 an hour. Brian Parker, co-owner, says he does not consider them "burger flippers." He tells many people that there is more to his workers jobs and he's taking the pay from $12 to $15 , because his workers are worth it. Some of his workers are very experienced and have studied the culinary arts and some have not, but they all deserve money to live on. He says that the job is not as automated as everyone thinks and higher pay doesn't mean higher prices. He's able to sell burgers for $3 and live comfortably. He says his shop may have a small voice but hes doing the right thing.
Analysis: This story is so touching, so many people work hard at their jobs and hard to make a living, and so many people aren't recognized for it. I'm glad someone finally sees all the hard work that some American's do. If this man with a small business in Dearborn Heights is able to keep his bigger prices at $3 and pay his workers $15 an hour, then I'm sure big shot McDonalds can do it too. Are big fast food restaurant chains cheating us out of our money? Or can they really not risk paying their workers that much? It's so good to see great people nowadays in this crazy world.

preach girl. That extra few bucks makes a huge change in someones quality of life and this is just a great thing.
ReplyDeleteThis is really cool. I applaud Brian for doing right by his employees. People who own fast food restaurants need to understand that the workers should have enough money to survive just like the rest of the world. Hopefully more places will follow this man's example.- Nia Edwards
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad there is someone out there who values his workers. I know, having worked before, some people don't realize what they're saying to you by paying you $7 an hour. On the other hand, these employees do possess certain skills that make them an asset to his restaurant. Not every McDonald's worker deserves to make a living wage by simply saying "Would you like fries with that?"
