The children first elementary academy located on Wheatland road got shut down last Monday by the T.E.A. due to not providing employees background checks and fingerprints. Turns out that 17 of the employees including the superintendent did not turn in their information on time. In January of 2012 Gregory Lynn Shelton ,the 6th grade teacher at the time, got fired and arrested for sexual assault to two male students. After that, that opened up several investigations on the Dallas campus. They have two different campuses one in Houston and Dallas. Both got closed down. They have been closed for a week now there is no sign of them opening back up.
This story comes really close to home. I attended this school for several years and everything
seemed to be fine. My little brother now attends this school. Well he did until last Monday. We sat in one classroom with one teacher and learned every subject. From pre-k 3 until 7th grade. Mr. Shelton the 6th grade teacher listed above was my 6th grade teacher. It's awful that the school has went downhill. I feel terrible for the staff, students, and parents who all have to find new jobs, schools, and take off work to find more schools.

Wow this must be hard for you to read this story Erinn. I hate hearing stories about teachers sexual assaulting kids, it just makes me cringe inside.
ReplyDeleteThats really scary that so many of teachers didn't turn in their backgroung information! It's a good thing they got shut down before even more damage could have been done.
ReplyDeleteI feel very bad that they had to shut down but they really should have known about who they were hiring especially for the safety of the students! Rhyann lee 5th period
