Recently, Matthew Humphries wrote an article about how a university in Australia, the Orica chemical company, released its research on how to trap carbon dioxide into bricks and stones that can be used for building structures or paving roads. This product has been six years in the making, and they are just about to put it into a trial for large-scale production.
This is absolutely remarkable. Really, just take a minute to really let it soak in how this could benefit the entire world. If factories install this, then the CO2 levels in our atmosphere (at least, the ones that are caused by unhealthy factory emissions) will drastically decrease! As the article nicely pointed out, too, there would also be a benefit for the factories. The factories could start selling these bricks and make a profit off of them. Instead of just getting rid of all that pollution, they could turn it into something that would be useful. And also, if more factories are doing this, and they are selling the bricks, that would mean that the price of the bricks would be quite cheap, meaning that we would be able to build buildings and pave roads without worrying about the cost so much.
This would benefit the companies and the environment as a whole. If this takes off, it could truly revolutionize the way we build things. It will be a while before this is ready to be put into large scale production, but once it is, who knows what will happen. I think it's just incredible that we have come this far with science, and that we can do this much.

It is extremely exciting that we live in an era with so much going on in the world of science and innovation! I hope this technology is put into use, as it will benefit many people financially and help the environment overall.
ReplyDeleteI greatly enjoyed your post, and I too am incredibly excited about this new technology. It would be tragic to see such innovation wasted or forgotten.
ReplyDeleteI think this is an amazing innovation that was desperately needed. With global warming at such a high concern these days, it's great that something like this is coming into the picture. Though it may be a while before it can actually be put into production, it will have the potential to open many doors for further innovation to help the environment.
ReplyDeleteWow, it's amazing how much this could benefit the environment! Not only will it help the atmosphere, but the economy as well. I really hope they go through with this idea because these problems we have worried about for so long will finally come to a halt.
ReplyDeleteThis is such an incredible achievement for scientists and environmentalists around the world! i really hope it works on large scale buildings, but even if we can trap it into a few bricks or stones per building we could make a difference. hooray!
