White Supremacists in Leith, North Dakota

Summary: There is a small town in North Dakota name Leith, the town only has about two dozen residents and only one of them is an African American. Now this small fact had never been a problem for Bobby Harper, or his wife Sherill Harper, that was until Paul Craig Cobb moved into town. Paul Craig Cobb is a self-proclaimed White nationalist who has been rapidly buying land in Leith and surrounding areas so that other like minded White people can move to the small town and basically take over. Cobb stated that his intentions are to "excite White\people" and "give them confidence because we're being deracinated in our own country." All this White Supremacy has caused things to get very uncomfortable for Bobby Harper and his white wife, Sherill. Sherill has been getting awful notes, degrading not only her but her relationship with her husband. The people of Leith are standing behind their fellow townsfolk, the Harpers, but the future is still unclear for them and the fate of Leith, North Dakota.

Analysis: When I first read this I could not believe my eyes. I knew that racism was still an issue in America, even though not nearly as big of an issue as it was fifty years ago, but actually seeing racism in action was a huge shock to me. In the article there was mention of a White supremacist website called whitenations.com, so I took a look at it, just for kicks, and what I read was absolutely horrifying. We have a big problem in America! Racism is still alive and well, and it is a threat to everyone. I can't help but think about if there are more people in America doing what Paul Craig Cobb is doing. And if so, how long until White supremacists actually take over and the Civil Rights movement is forced into reversion?

  1. Wow, this sounds crazy! The fact that we STILL have race issues in this country is really just depressing. If we cannot fix problems from centuries ago, we certainly can't fix current problems.
