5th Period Julian Randall (Missouri Man secretly exposed partner)

5th Period Julian Randall (Missouri Man secretly exposed partner)

Summary: On September 6, 2013, a very deranged event, According to "CNN", took place in Dexter, Missouri. The police pressed charges to a Missouri man by the name of David Lee Mngum for something he should have done 9 years ago. The police say that David was tested positive for HIV in the year of 2003, however, Lee failed to inform his 300 sex partners, he had accumulated over a 9 year period, of the virus he was diagnosed with. But, he did reveal the unravelling information to one young lady in particular that he had been sexually active with in the past. She was the main source of infomation in this case. Amongst the various partners David was affiliated with, the one that was most essential in the article was his relationship with someone from the Dallas metroplex. He and this person had met on craiglist and had unprotected sex. However, the relationship ceased after Mangum was accused of having an affair by his partner. Later, that person David had been involved with recieved a call from the young lady that lived with Mangum in 2011. She had called to say that Mangum had reveal to her that he had been HIV positive since 2003. After that call, the victim took a test with the Stoddard County Health Department, that showed that he was positive. That same day Mangum was found and arrested, with bail set to $250,000, considering that in the state of Missouri, exposing someone to HIV without their consent is a felony. In fact, it could bring a life term. Police are having a hard time tracking other people that David Mangum could have been involved with, but the suspect only knew some of them by their first names. The mind boggling part of it all, is that the reason why he refused to inform anyone of his condition was because he feared being rejected. Mangum is sentenced to 15 years in prison, minimum.

Analysis: This article was created by Greg Botelho with CNN. Throughout the various aspects of the article, he refuses to reveal his point of view. But, in my opinion, the facts speak for themselves. The article was produced Friday, September 6, 2013 at 9:30 PM. From what I've read about the case, it seems to me that the article was written for all who may have potentialy come into contanct with Mangum. In addition, it could be geard towards any one who was incolved someone who knew or was active with him, and the cycle continues. More Specifically, those who participated in a particular group affiliated with Craigslist dating. So overall, the article is somewhat used as a "warning" or an "informational tool" to those who werent reachable by the police, or just anyone who THINKS they are affected. In my opinion, its a positive influence on that audience because mostly anything that could be used to raise awareness is positive in general. However, ultimtely, its up to the audience to determine its influence. I think it was extremely selfish on Mangums end of the spectrum to widthold that information on his condition from his partners, and its quite unfortunate that he was able to escape this criminality for the time period in which he did. In conclusion, the main idea of the article is that this man who committed attempted murder so many times, is finally serving his ime where it is due and raises awareness to those who could potentially be affected. My philosophy on te scenario is, life does go on. But does it go on for those who may have been affected by this tragic synopsis?

  1. I found your article very disturbing. Hopefully people that turn to Craiglist for dating or intimacy will read this article also and find that sharing such intimacy with strangers does more harm than good in the long run. Hopefully Magnum will realize that there are hundreds of thousands of peope living with HIV that have successful loving relationships. Hopefully anyone that has completed a hook up on Craigslist will go and get tested. It is so important to know your status. It also makes me sad that people are so afraid of rejection that they are not only willing to put their own health in jeopardy but also the lives of others.
