California’s Governor, Gavin Newsome, announced he will be withdrawing the National Guard Troops from the state’s border. These troops will be tasked with other jobs such as the fire agency, Counterdrug task, and working against the criminal drug gangs. Newsome has a very progressive outlook on new ideas to work on in California like climate change and equal pay. His predecessor, Brown, allowed for the 400 troops to be put along the border in California by Trump’s administration and warned that this was not a way to build the wall.
This article was published in The New York Times and written by Jose A. Del Real who focuses on border security and immigration news. The audience of this article is the people of the United States, especially California and was made to inform them about the recent update along their border. This shows that Governor Newsome found other problems in their state that are more important than placing guards on their borders even if the current admistration desires it. This event reminds me of the actions of New Mexico’s Governor where they ordered the removal of border troops as well. It is important for the people of this country to be aware of new news of the border since this is an important, stressed upon issue of today’s administration.
