TRUMP EMERGENCY DECLARATION LAWSUIT
16 states filed a lawsuit on Monday to stop President Trump’s plan to pay for the wall by declaring a national emergency, calling it a “flagrant disregard of fundamental separation of powers principles.”
The third complaint in a long list of legal challenges was previously launched in opposition to Trump's use of emergency powers by the U.S. District Court for North Carolina after he announced the deed during a White House news conference on Friday. Public Citizen, a liberal advocacy group, filed a lawsuit last Friday in D.C. on behalf of three Texas landowners who would be greatly impacted by the construction of a wall along the border. And Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics has currently filed a motion against the Department of Justice stating that the agency needs to provide paper evidence pertaining to the legal reasoning of the president’s emergency declaration.
Although I doubt its effectiveness, I'm glad this lawsuit is occurring. Anything to slow down the construction of this wasteful and pointless wall is okay in my eyes.
