Bootleg Liquor Kills 100 in India - Hadley McGhee

While India does not Prohibit Alcohol, many people turn to bootlegged alcohol because they cannot afford the real thing. This poses a problem because in order to make the bootlegged alcohol cheap, bootleggers have started cutting it with other chemicals, much like the synthetic drug trade. Over 100 people in northern India have died from alcohol poisoning because of a bad batch of "hooch" as the locals call it. Some sources say the alcohol may have been brewed with methanol.

This relates to Prohibition because even though Indians are turning to bootlegged alcohol because of poverty, they still have to turn to it. There were also a small number of deaths from alcohol poisoning during Prohibition, though they were scarcely reported because alcohol was illegal.

  1. This is horrible! This sounds very similar to that drug video we watched during flex last month, and how they started talking about counterfeit xanax!
