A winter storm in Hawaii has produced strong winds, high surf, and yes, even snow-Nik Puri

Winter Storms aren't common and are unheard of in the state of Hawaii. This storm consisted of gusty winds, rain, high surf, and even snow. Trees and branches were blown on the roads, and caused power outages across the Hawaiian Islands. The DLNR reported, "For the first time ever, snow has fallen in a Hawaii State Park. Polipoli State Park on Maui is covered with snow and could be the lowest elevant snow ever recorded in the state. Furthermore, the National Weather Service in Honolulu issued a wind advisory in effect until noon HST. Wind Speeds were recorded at 25-40 mph and there were reports of wind speeds above 50 and 60 mph.

Before I read this article, I never thought that a winter storm would actually take place in Hawaii. It's a place where the weather is always great and tropical, but I realize that it can happen now. This article was also targeted towards the citizens of America and the residents in the Hawaiian Islands as an update for the conditions of the storm. Finally, it is important because it serves as a reminder that anything can happen at anytime, and anywhere.

  1. I agree! You would never expect something like snow and blizzards to occur in such a tropical place like Hawaii, but it is! This is just a reminder that weather is one of those extremely unpredictable things, that continues to surprise us.
