A 5-year-old was teased for looking like a boy. So her teacher chopped off her own hair to show support - Karsyn Kelly

A teacher north of Houston, Texas showed support to a little girl in her class after being teased by classmates about her haircut. The teacher noticed the girl’s sad attitude and that she had been wearing a hat often, only to find out about the teasing that had been going on. The teacher talked with the little girl and learned that this had been affecting the little girl’s perspective towards school and she was not happy coming to school anymore. After this discussion between the teacher and the student, the little girl was surprised to come to school and see her teacher had cut her hair to match hers. The teacher talked about wanting to her students to love coming to school and to know they are beautiful no matter what.

This story was really inspiriting to me knowing there are teachers that are taking the time to really listen to their students and provide support for them emotionally, rather than just focusing on academics. I also liked that the teacher was able to educate the other students about supporting each other and not basing their opinion only on someone’s looks.

  2. I can notice that especially in the US teachers act this way with students. And this way of connection between teachers and students, I think, the most important way. Without emotional support there is no such good and strong relationship ~ Sophia Zhukova

  3. Reading this warms my heart. At that age, minds are easy malleable and I love that this teacher took direct action and stood up for this student.
