After declaring the U.S. to be in a state of emergency in order to get the wall built, 16 states are suing Trump. The attempt to use emergency spending on his wall made people question how far the powers of the President should actually go and what is and is not constitutional. Trump even said, "I didn't need to do this, but I'd rather do it much faster."California's lawsuit states that the suing states are trying to protect the people, their natural resources, and the economy. The House of Representatives is also trying to block Trump's plan. Many people are questioning whether what is happening on the border can be counted as an emergency.
This article states all the facts, but it is clear from the writing that the author is on the side of the suing states, so not only is this article made to inform, but it is also to persuade. The author has a clear stance in this situation, and I am in agreement. I do not think it is constitutional for the president to put the country into a state of emergency to differ the budget and get his project done faster, especially with so much of the country against him. I truly think/hope that this will come crashing down around him soon.
This and much of Trump's decisions remind me of at the start of the county when we were deciding the powers of the government. There were great arguments over strict or loose interpretation and how much power the separate branches should have. These questions have remained until today. The responsibilities and rights of the President are nearly always being considered, especially with the current administration.
