Wolfgang Hunter - Ancient penguin was as big as a (human) Pittsburgh Penguin

Scientists have recently discovered an ancient penguin species native to New Zealand that might have stood as tall as 6 feet and weighed roughly 225 pounds. Scientists are still confused on the possible reasons for extinction. Some argue that the species was fazed by the sudden warming of temperatures in the region at the time of their extinction, while others attribute it to competition with larger, more predatorily animals such as seals.

I find this quite interesting because of the sheer fact that this supposed animal only went extinct around 4000 BCE, which means it's taken archeologists quite a long amount of time to find evidence for this creature. I could only assume that the species was not large in numbers, as if it were, there would not be this scarcity of archeological evidence.
