Asthma is very common in adults and children all over the world. Nearly 19 million adults (8%) and 7 million children face asthma daily. Although no one knows the exact causes of asthma, we do know that heredity is a factor. It is common to not experience asthma as a child, but to have it develop as you age. Women are at a higher risk for adult asthma, research suggests that hormonal fluctuations play a role. Even though the cause for asthma has not been determined yet, there are some common triggers that may make your symptoms worse. The most common triggers are: allergies, pets, cigarette smoke, mold, dust, cold air, respiratory infections, exercise, and even cockroaches. All of these things sound normal, but cockroaches? The reason behind these bugs is; cockroach excrement and dust can trigger bronchial inflammation.
I didn't realize how common asthma was. I also didn't realize how many common, everyday things could trigger respiratory inflammation. I hope doctors are able to find out what causes asthma, so that way we can develop treatments to help prevent it.

Olivia Wall- I have sports asthma , so this is very interesting to read. That is crazy that 7 million children are affected by it, yet who knows how many of them are treated.
ReplyDeleteI can have asthma attacks just by standing outside, but I know that everyone's level of asthma varies. I wish that it could disappear permanently instead of having to use inhalers all the time.
ReplyDeletemy mom and sister both have asthma, and I get it when i have allergic reactions. It's bizarre how underrated asthma is, and how there needs to be more awareness for it.
ReplyDeleteI found this very interesting. I also didn't realize how common asthma was. It can become very serious. I hope they can find a good way to treat it.
ReplyDeleteI also didn't realize how common asthma is, and it would be awesome if doctors could prevent it
ReplyDeleteI knew that asthma was a problem, but I did not know that it was such a common problem! I feel like learning more about what causes asthma could help asthma treatment/prevention a lot!
ReplyDeleteAs a person with extremely crippling asthma, I think it's strange how so many people don't really know how common it is.
