In the wake of the mass shooting at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, President Donald Trump has come out and said that he views the issue not as a gun issue but a mental health problem. When asked if the recent events should lead to stricter gun laws, he answered that he didn't believe that that was the problem. Trump also called the massacre as evil in every such way.
On what Trump is saying, I both agree and disagree with him. I do think that the issue is a mental health problem. Mentally sane people just don't go shooting up churches. However at the same time, if a person is mentally ill, then they should not have the ability to access guns. Gun laws need to be stricter in order so mentally ill people cannot get guns and the country will be safer. We also need to work on getting the mentally ill the help that they need and deserve.

ReplyDeleteIf trump said that the massacre was evil in every such way then doesn't that include the control the suspect had over the firearm and not just "mental issues" .
