In this op-ed piece, the author made a persuasive point that it will take mass shootings becoming personal for people to give up their right to guns.
He argues that the second amendment, the right to bear arms, is also the right to not care. The right to not care how many people die, how many families and communities are affected, until it's too late. Until it happens to you. The truth of the matter is, it will take a concerted, nation-wide effort to solve this issue, and that can't begin until we admit that there is a problem.
The forcible language of this article may seem a bit too much to some, but it just showcases the passion of the author and the controversy of the topic. I agree with the idea that human lives are more important than any concept or rule created hundreds of years ago, especially if the only thing that's keeping the law alive is blind fear and stubbornness.
I think for a lot of people, the right to bear arms is the right to defend yourself to the death, giving people a sense of security by owning guns.

ReplyDeleteSo I do give a d*, infact, i give many d*, but that doesn't mean I think guns should be illegal. So, technically nothing man made in this world is dangerous, nothing, men themselves are dangerous, a gun didn't cause the shootings we hear about in the news, a person did. People are the dangerous ones, guns can be used for protection and for violece, it depends on how one would use it. I think we should work on how to make obtaining a gun hard than how it is right now. That's what we should do in my opinion, I think this way because I give a d* and I think owning a way of protecting yourself is important. If we were to ever outlaw guns, some way people will obtain them anyway. Then the only people who have guns will be the bad people, the good people won't be able to keep themselves safe. Also the whole blind fear part may be true to some people but defiantly not for everyone. My dad grew up in the ghetto parts of Detroit and has told me countless stories on how he had to fight himself out of uncomfortable situations because someone wanted his hard earned money. One time my dad cought someone trying to rob his house, during the day time might I add, so he had to fight him off with a samurai sword that his older brother left at his house. And that was when he was just a kid. If kids have deal with this type of stuff during the day, what may adults have to deal with at night time? About 2 years ago, my neigbor- across the street was robbed, durring the day time! And this didn't happen in the ghetto like my dad's neighborhood, this happened in DeSoto! Every man and woman should be able to protect themselves, sometime that means by gun.
I honestly wish that we didn't have to have this debate. I think that guns are useful and the answer to the problem is not to go out and ban all guns. If we do, criminals will still get guns and we will have no way to defend ourselves. But at the same time, there needs to be regulations that can help us like medical services for the people who have traits that can lead to mass shootings.
ReplyDeleteThis issue has multiple sides, but personally after all of these events that have happened, change HAS to be made, and soon. I'm sick of hearing about shootings and I hope that we do something to prevent them.
