Statistics show that the number of foreign students coming to the U.S. for education purposes has decreased. The number of international students has declined by 7%.

. “Concerns around the travel ban had a lot to do with concerns around personal safety based on a few incidents involving international students, and a generalized concern about whether they’re safe.”
--Rajika Bhandari (head of research for the institute that collects research data on international students)
I feel like this is pretty silly. The United States used to be a safe place for many foreigners. We used to be UNITED! We shouldn't be seen as a danger to someone just because they are foreigners.
Another decline may be more competition from other countries (such as Australia, Britain, and Canada).
Small universities/colleges that rely on foreign students have been struggling with the decline of tuition fees that come from foreign students. If this decline continues, small universities/colleges could have a big problem!
This was very interesting to me. I understand that other countries may have better things to offer, but I do not think it is acceptable for foreigners to be afraid to come to school here.

  1. First of all, the travel ban was fairly recent, so I don't know how much that really has to do with it. It could affect college applications from this year, but it would only be from certain countries. Second, if colleges want more students, they're going to have to lower their tuition. If a store puts something on sale, more people buy it so they make a bigger profit. I think the same thing COULD happen for colleges. Some other countries have free colleges so why would their students want to come to America even if we have better school if they are outrageously expensive? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
