Walmart & Amazon Ask: Can We Enter Your Home When You’re Gone?

Both Walmart and Amazon are beginning to test services that will allow their delivery crews to bring packages as well as food into your house without you being there. This new service is supposed to benifit the buyer,  according to both companies, because it allows for items to be "securely [placed] inside your home, rather than being left [outside] your porch." The process is said to be simple, safe, and easy. The buyer must simply decide on the item they wish to purchase, choose the "in home delivery" option, and supply the deliver with a one-time only access code to their home. The idea of this service has many obvious benifits, however it would require an extremely high level of trust, between the consumer and the delivery companies.

This article relates to Apush, during the divide of Federalists and Anti-Federalists: the wanting or not wanting  of a strong central government. The desire for a new delivery service represents the want for a strong central government, and those who support it represent the Federalists, while those who don't support it, represent the Anti-Federalists. Just like the Central government, the service system has negatives. It would give the companies access to thousands of people's homes, and this would give them a great deal of power. Can we really trust complete strangers with total access to our homes and all of our belongings? We might as well give them the keys to our homes...

  1. It is very true about safety, how are we supposed to know that the people they hire are responsible and not criminals that have just been released from prison?
