Jeson Aviles - Chili Just Became the First-Ever Dog Certified to Save Our Bell Peppers

An insect undetectable to the human eye and having the ability to reproduce faster when in the presence of pesticides almost caused the end to one of North Americas largest bell pepper producers. Having caused over %75 million, the pepper weevil was running the Leamington, Ontario greenhouse out of methods to combat it, raising the fear that their fate would be the conclusion of business. "We were at wits end - we didn't know what to do... so the idea of a scent detection dog just came to mind." Chili, a 2-year-old Belgian shepherd came to the rescue. Hired by Nature Fresh Farms in July, she has made a great difference in the interactions between the pepper weevils and the bell peppers. Chili is the world's first dog certified as an individual with the ability to seek out the pests, then allowing quarantine specialists to close off the area of the pests found and eliminate them. A good dog.
