Florida high school segregates students at lunch based on GPA, absences, report says//KLARK JOHNSON

Hudson High school in Pasco County, Florida has been reportedly "segregating" students by their grade point average and attendance. The program was started at the beginning of the school year. Officials describe the "On-Track" program as a way to encourage students to preform better in school. Students feel they are being divided up. Students with a GPA higher than 2.0 and fewer than 4 absences, no F's on report cards and  earn all their credits for the semester are a part of the On-Track program. These students receive special privileges including free school sports tickets and the ability to eat lunch outside the cafeteria; these students also receive a bracelet and ID labeling the a part of the program. The students who do not fill requirements are forced to eat in the cafeteria and not able to leave.

Students have complained about the cafeteria becoming crowded and not being able to leave the lunchroom even with passes from teachers. “There’s so many kids that sit on the floors, they’re sitting on tables, and they’re just standing, and it’s overcrowded,” Rhainey Knight told FOX13. Some students have even started protests against the program by walking out of the cafeteria due to limited space. I think this is crazy and mean to push these beliefs on these students. They are being treated as if some students are less than if they do not make good grades. These kids are being labeled and punished and i hope all gets done to remove it immediately.

  1. It seems like their coming from a good place and are trying to motivate their students but if their students are starting to say that they feel less than and segregated from the kids on the On-Track program then something needs to change. I think it's just stupid to keep pushing this program on the kids when there are obvious problems with it.

  2. I think that this is a very drastic way to motivate kids to have better grades. In the long run, I'm not sure if it will be very effective or if it will just cause kids to develop bad tempers and depression.

  3. I don't think this program will motivate kids at all. I would be pissed if they implemented this into my school, its just another way of segregation and messes up people's idea of what real success is. It also makes those who are doing better in school feel superior to those who aren't doing well, which isnt true,

  4. This program is gonna do the opposite. Not only is it unconstitutional, but it makes the kids feel like there's no reason to do anything, since they're already at the best or worst group.

  5. I wish someone would try to segregate me from my classmates. First of all, what century are we in? Second of all, isn't there ,I don't know, a law or something that says that schools cant be segregated.

  6. As hilarious as this is, it has to stop. I'm baffled that this article even exists.
