26 Found Dead in the Mediterranean Sea | Chloe Villa-Abrille

Recently the discovery of 26 bodies left adrift in the Mediterranean Sea has prompted many questions, and a thorough investigation by Italian authorities. The scene revealed that all that died on the voyage were younger females, most likely on the dangerous path to Europe from Libya. It’s unknown if it was the works of trying to escape the war torn country, or the saddening fault of human trafficking. On Monday a similar event happened that ended with arresting a Libyan and Egyptian man for human trafficking. This deadly voyage has resulted in the loss of 2,839 migrants, but on the up side, 150,982 migrants have reached European soil, mainly in Italy, and are welcomed with opportunities.
Written by CNN, this article is to inform all that wish to understand the hardship of Immigrants forced to flee their home, and their affect on the country they seek asylum in. It really is devastating having to see that so many are having to risk their lives to escape a country that hold the promise of death for all that stay. It is nice though that countries like Italy open their doors to people in need, but Italy does hold 74% of these immigrants, and probably cannot bear the weight of many more. I wish other countries might aid Italy in their efforts to save these people; however, on the other hand, if power struggles in Libya can be stopped, and a non-corrupt leader be appointed, then maybe it’ll be a good step towards making reforms for the country and people.
